Gazprom to consider UGS projects in China near Russian border, Yellow Sea coast

MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Gazprom has named three promising underground gas storage (UGS) projects in China's Heilongjiang province, on the border of Amur region, where the Power of Siberia pipeline enters China; and Jiangsu province, on the Yellow Sea coast.

Gazprom's press service said that during a visit to China on Wednesday, company chief Alexei Miller and CNPC chairman Wang Yilin discussed the results of joint consideration of projects in gas storage and signed an agreement on geological and technical studies to build USG facilities.

"On the basis of the document, an assessment will be conducted of the geological, technological and economic conditions of building UGS facilities at the Shengshen 2-1 deposit in Heilongjiang province and Chuzhou salt caverns in Jiangsu province, as well as other new future areas," the press release said.

Both parties discussed future joint completion of gas generation projects in China and decided to complete preparatory arrangements in 2017 to make investment decisions on the basis of a pilot project.

In addition, cooperation in the use of compressed gas as motor fuel on international transport routes between China and Europe was discussed during the meeting.
