Proposal was made at six-party talks on Afghanistan in Moscow to broaden this format by adding to it countries of Central Asia

MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Participants in the six-party negotiations on Afghanistan in Moscow have spoken in favor of broadening this format, primarily by adding the countries of Central Asia to it.

Consultations on Afghan issues were held in Moscow on February 15 in a six-party format involving Russia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, Iran and India at the level of special envoys on Afghanistan and senior officials. The consultation participants also met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov.

"In the context of possible broadening of this negotiation format, understanding was reached on the need to develop regional efforts to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan by involving at the next stage the potential of other countries, primarily from Central Asia," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a report issued on Wednesday.

"The consultation participants reached an agreement to intensify efforts to promote an intra-Afghan reconciliation while maintaining Kabul's leading role and observing the earlier agreed principles of the armed opposition's integration into peaceful life," the Foreign Ministry said.
