Second round of Astana talks addressing issue of Syria ceasefire monitoring task force, final statement text - Kazakh Foreign Ministry
ASTANA. Feb 16 (Interfax) - The participants in the intra-Syrian talks in Astana are discussing the issue of setting up a task force to monitor the ceasefire in Syria and the text of the meeting's final statement, the director of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry's Asia and Africa Department, Aidarbek Tumatov, told reporters on Thursday.
"The parties are mainly considering the issue of a provision on creating a task force that will monitor the ceasefire regime. The final statement text is also under consideration by the parties," he said.
The possibility of certain populated localities joining the ceasefire is being discussed as well, he said.
"It is highly important. The practical part of the Astana process lies in it - the more populated localities join the ceasefire regime, the better it will be for the Syrian settlement process," Tumatov said.
