Churkin was on 'frontline', missed no blow against Russia - Kosachyov

MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax) - Vitaly Churkin was the first to take upon himself the blows against Russia and coped with this mission, sparing neither his time nor his health, Federation Council international affairs committee's head Konstantin Kosachyov said.

"The position of the representative to the United Nations is one of the highest and most responsible positions in the diplomatic service of any country. But for our country as a state, which is a permanent member of the Security Council, it is also a mission of global scale and global responsibility. Vitaly Ivanovich absolutely complied with this mission by his professional and human qualities," Kosachyov wrote on Facebook on Monday.

Churkin clearly understood Russia's national interests and protected them, employing his professionalism in combination with quick reaction time and a wonderful sense of humor, he said.

"I have repeatedly worked next to him, together with Vitaly Ivanovich, and have always been amazed with his self-possession and restraint, wondering how he manages to do so. Now I understand how - with his soul and with his heart, sparing neither time nor health," the senator wrote.

"In recent years he without any exaggeration has been on the frontline, on the very forefront, being the first to take upon himself the blows directed against Russia, but missing none of them," the committee head said.

It was reported earlier on Monday that Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Churkin died on Monday at the age of 64 years in New York.
