Shoigu blames West for growing tensions in int'l relations
MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Attempts by Western countries led by the United States to hinder the formation of a new world order are leading to growing chaos and anarchy and are opposed by many countries, Russian Defense Minister Gen. of the Army Sergei Shoigu said.
"Relations between different countries are becoming increasingly tense. Rivalry for possessing resources and controlling their transportation routes is getting stronger. Attempts by Western countries led by the U.S. to hinder the formation of a new and more just world order are leading to growing chaos and anarchy and are opposed by a lot of countries," Shoigu said in a lecture at the opening of the 2nd all-Russia youth forum 'International military-technical and military-economic cooperation: modern tendencies' at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) on Tuesday.
"International organizations serving to maintain global security are functioning unstably," he said.
"Military force is becoming the main tool in resolving international problems. The threat of international terrorism is a serious factor. Extremists have been using the informational environment increasingly more frequently to spread their ideas and recruit new members to terrorist groups," Shoigu said, adding that these efforts have been especially active among young people, including online.
"In these conditions, government and non-government institutions should combine their efforts to promote and protect national interests and reinforce our country's defense," he said.
