Ammonia leak found in U.S. segment of ISS, no threat to crew - source

MOSCOW. Feb 24 (Interfax) - An ammonia leak was found on the U.S. segment of the International Space Station (ISS), a source in the aerospace industry told Interfax.

"Ammonia is leaking from the external thermoregulation system. It poses no threat to the crew," the source said.

The astronauts could not stop the leak for more than a week, but the source of the leak was determined on Thursday. "The external surface of the station was scanned using an ammonia analyzer delivered to the station and the place of the leak was localized - the radiator valves unit on Section P1," the source said.

Nevertheless, attempts to stop the ammonia leak have so far failed.

NASA experts continue following the development f the situation.
