'Scary tales' of Russia intending to influence German, French elections absurd - Matviyenko

MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - Allegations that Russia intends to interfere in the elections in Germany and France are absurd, Russian Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko said.

"It is simply absurd," Matviyenko said at a meeting with French Senate delegation head Jean-Pierre Raffarin.

'Scary tales' that Russia intends to influence the elections in Germany and France have started being spread, she said.

"This cannot be taken without humor," she said.

Russia will cooperate with any president of France who wins the elections, Matviyenko said.

"We are ready to cooperate with any president of France who is elected by the French people," she said.

The presidential elections in France are an important political event not only for Europe, but also for the whole world, she said.

"France has been and remains to be a leading partner for Russia in Europe," Matviyenko said.
