Russia invites NATO leadership to Moscow Int'l Security Conference - Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia has invited the NATO leadership and also the European Union's and the alliance's member-countries to the Moscow International Security Conference, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin said at a news briefing for over 100 foreign defense attaches accredited in Moscow.

"Despite the fact that military cooperation has been suspended, invitations to the forum have been forwarded to all member-states of NATO and the European Union, as well as to NATO leadership," Fomin said.

"As in previous years, we are ready to provide our partners with a forum to voice their views freely and exchange opinions on various aspects of global and regional security in the presence of over 200 Russian and foreign journalists," he said.

The Russian Defense Ministry considers the conference a platform to voice positions, he said.

"If anyone has an alternative point of view, let them explain it, and we will consider it in our further work. In short, we expect open and engaged discussions," Fomin said.

"It is the Moscow International Security Conference's objective to combine the efforts of defense agencies to seek the most efficient measures in countering common threats and challenges," he said.
