Shoigu, Patrushev, Lavrov to speak at Moscow intl security conference on Apr 26 - Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia's Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev are expected to make opening speeches at the sixth Moscow Conference on International Security on April 26, Deputy Defense Minister Lieut. Gen. Alexander Fomin said.

"The Russian Defense Ministry is organizing yet another Moscow Conference on International Security on April 26-27. This will be the sixth forum. The conference will be opened by the defense minister of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Shoigu, the foreign minister of the Russian Federation, Lavrov, a speech by Russian Federation Security Council Secretary Patrushev is also being planned," Fomin said at a meeting with foreign military diplomats.

Russia's First Deputy Defense Minister and Chief of the General Staff, General of the Army Valery Gerasimov, will present a report at one of plenary sessions, Fomin said.

"The conference program involves four plenary sessions, which will focus on the most challenging problems of global and regional security, where heads of foreign defense ministries will present their views," the deputy minister said.

The first session, entitled "Global security: the challenges of the 21st century," will focus on current challenges to global security and the threat of international terrorism, Fomin said. The second session, "European security: prospects and trends," will focus on Russia-NATO interaction, increasing openness and confidence-building measures in the military sphere.

The third session, "The Asia-Pacific Region: a balance of interests or a confrontation of forces?" will focus on the problems of one the most fast-developing regions, the official said. The fourth session, "Interaction between military agencies: regional aspects," will focus on ways to maintain military cooperation, regional security, the meaning of military coordination in preventing dangerous incidents.

"As well as the plenary sessions, four discussion sections are being planned to discuss issues such as fighting terrorism and radicalism in the Middle East, cyber space security, antiballistic missile defense, providing security in Central Asia," the Russian deputy defense minister said.
