Kyiv reports 62 shell attacks on Ukrainian military positions in Donbas on Friday
KYIV/DONETSK/LUHANSK. March 3 (Interfax) - One Ukrainian soldier has been injured in Donbas; in all, there were more than 60 enemy shell attacks on Friday, the press center of the Ukrainian military operation said.
"In all, 62 shell attacks were registered [by 6 p.m.]," the press center said on its Facebook page.
In the Mariupol sector, the enemy fired 122-millimeter artillery at Lebedinske, and 120 millimeter mortars at Vodiane, Krasnohorivka and Shyrokyne, the press center said. The enemy also used an infantry fighting vehicle to fire repeatedly at Shyrokyne; large-caliber machineguns and small arms, at Vodiane, Novotroitske, Shyrokyne, Talakivka and Novohryhorivka. A sniper operated at Vodiane and Novotroitske.
In the Luhansk sector, the enemy fired mortars against Katerinivka, Krimske and Novooleksandrivka; grenade launchers, large-caliber machineguns and anti-tank missile systems against Krimske, the press center said.
In the Donetsk sector, the enemy fired 120- and 82-millimeter mortars, grenades and small arms against Avdiivka, the Butivka mine, Pisky, Verkhniotoretsk, Nevelske, Opitne, Zaitseve and Luhanske, the press center said.
Earlier on Friday Defense Ministry spokesman Andriy Lysenko said at a briefing that Ukrainian casualties in Donbas amounted to one dead and 22 injured in the preceding 24 hours.
Meanwhile, according to prosecutors in the self-proclaimed Luhansk people's republic (LPR), Ukrainian troops shelled the village of Frunze, injuring a civilian, on Friday.
"At around 1.45 p.m. Kyiv government forces carried out shelling of the village of Frunze," LPR prosecutor David Kats was quoted by the Luhansk Information Center as saying.
As a result, one civilian sustained a tangential fragmentation wound to his head and arm, LPR prosecutors said.
Meanwhile, the self-proclaimed Donetsk people's republic has registered nearly 2,000 Ukrainian shell attacks in the past 24 hours. One militiaman was killed and two injured over the week. A woman was also injured.
