Russia wants to see Sinai air crash investigated, perpetrators punished asap - Matviyenko

CAIRO. March 4 (Interfax) - Russia would like to see the investigation of the Russian airliner's crash in Sinai to be finalized as soon as possible, Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko said at the meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail.

"Mr. Prime Minister, both we and you are interested in the investigation of that criminal case opened following the air crash being completed as soon as possible and those guilty found and certainly punished," Matviyenko said.

It is extremely important that such crimes do not go unpunished, she added.

On October 31, 2015, an A321 airliner operated by Kogalymavia crashed in Sinai Peninsula after departing from Sharm el-Sheikh for St. Petersburg. All 224 people on board were killed. Two weeks later, Russian authorities qualified the air crash as an act of terror, saying that explosion of a bomb onboard the aircraft was the cause of the crash.
