Ashgabat ready to get involved in creation of intl transport corridor - Turkmen president

ASHGABAT. March 6 (Interfax) - Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will foster cooperation in the transport sector in order to set up a powerful and advanced infrastructure, which would ensure unification of the transportation systems of Central Asia, Europe and the Middle East, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow said on Monday.

In particular, Turkmenistan is ready for joint work to create a corridor along the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Caspian Sea-South Caucasus route reaching out to Black Sea ports of Georgia, Turkey, Romania and other countries, Berdimuhamedow said following talks with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The agreement to step up substantive cooperation to implement the five-party Agreement signed in 2011 and stipulating the laying down of an international transport and transit corridor from Central Asia to the Middle East countries, to which Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are the parties, has been reached at the talks, official Turkmen media reported.
