UN praises Astana's intermediary role in intra-Syrian talks - Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry
ASTANA. March 7 (Interfax) - The United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenca noted Kazakhstan's contribution to the organizing of several rounds of Syria talks in Astana, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
"Jenca highly rated Kazakhstan's role as an efficient intermediary in the peaceful settlement of crises in the region and worldwide, having particularly noted its contribution to the organizing of several rounds of the Astana [negotiating] process on Syria," the ministry said in a statement released on Tuesday after Jenca met with Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov.
"In his view, such an approach coincides with the ideas of the new UN secretary-general about the priority of preventive diplomacy in solving various crises in the modern-day world," according to the press release.
