Russian, Turkish special services exchange info for fight against terrorism, this close interaction will be broadened - Putin
MOSCOW. March 10 (Interfax) - Russia and Turkey are exchanging intelligence information in counterterrorism, the military and special services are working together on Syria, Russian President Vladimir Putin told a press conference following top-level Russian-Turkish negotiations.
"We are exchanging information on the counterterrorism track. Our special services are working very closely and we intend to broaden this cooperation," Putin said.
The situation in Syria and other countries of the region cannot help but concern Russia and Turkey as it is a source of global threats, including the issue of migration flows, which is also hurting Turkey, he said.
"We understand all these things, we see and we will do everything we can to settle any such problems. We will unite our efforts. Like I said more than once, including in my speeches in the United Nations Organization, terrorism can only be defeated if efforts are united," the Russian president said.
He spoke about a high level of interaction between the Russian and Turkish special services, adding that cooperation involving Iranian partners helped achieve a ceasefire in Syria.
The president called the Astana negotiations between the Syrian conflict parties "an evident result of our joint work."
