Inspections in southern Russia expose lax attitude to meeting anti-terror requirements before Confederations Cup - Patrushev
ASTRAKHAN. March 14 (Interfax) - Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev has criticized the negligent attitude in the Southern Federal District to the implementation of anti-terror security measures ahead of the Confederations Cup and an upcoming vacationing season.
"Due to the coming summer holidaymaking season and the holding of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, one needs to focus on the facilities of holiday homes, sports centers and vital facilities. However, inspections which have been carried out (in the Southern Federal District), have uncovered cases of a lax attitude to the fulfillment of anti-terrorism protection requirements at the facilities," Patrushev said at a visiting meeting.
Measures to heighten anti-terrorism security of facilities are being insufficiently funded, which affects the low level of their provision with security and emergency warning equipment, he said. Security checks are also not provided at appropriate level.
"First of all, a poor qualification and executive discipline of officials, who are in charge of this trend of activity, is alarming," the Russian Security Council secretary said.
The uncovered irregularities indicate the need to implement extra organizational and legal measures and step up the coordination of work in this area, he also said.
