Moldovan president, Russian senior diplomat mull return of Moldovan cos to Russian market
CHISINAU. March 14 (Interfax) - Moldovan President Igor Dodon on Tuesday received Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin.
Dodon wrote on Facebook that with the Russian diplomat he discussed the implementation of understandings reached at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin in mid-January 2017 when the Moldovan leader made his first visit abroad as president.
"Specifically we raised the issue of the development of Moldovan-Russian trade relations, the return of leading Moldovan companies to the Russian market. I separately thanked the Russian leadership for the migration amnesty of certain categories of Moldovan citizens," Dodon said.
He said the sides discussed the problems of people from both banks of the Dniester in connection with the unsettled Transdniestrian conflict.
"We recognized positive dynamics after the January 4 meeting with the head of Transdniestria Vadim Krasnoselsky in Bender. I hope we will be able to meet again before the end of March," he said.
Dodon expressed regret about the consequences of a statement of the Moldovan parliament and government addressed to Russia [a note was handed over to the Russian ambassador to Moldova expressing concern about recent detentions of Moldovan officials on the Russian border] and voiced hope that this will not affect relations between the two countries.
"I spoke for the utmost development of strategic relations of partnership between Moldova and Russia. This could manifest itself in Moldovan-Russian consultations on the development of strategic partnership. If need be, consultations could be launched on drafting a new treaty of strategic partnership between our two states," Dodon said.
