Aliyev calls on France to intensify efforts to settle Karabakh conflict as OSCE Minsk Group co-chair
BAKU. March 145 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expects France to intensify its activities to settle the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Azerbaijani presidential website said.
Aliyev held a meeting with Claude Bartolone, the French National Assembly president, as part of his official visit to France on Tuesday, the website said.
"At a meeting, Aliyev pointed out that over 1 million Azerbaijani become refugees and displaced persons as a result of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The president said that the OSCE Minsk Group [on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict] has been working on the settlement of the conflict for 25 years, but those efforts remain ineffective. The president expressed confidence that France, as a co-chair of the Minsk Group, will intensify its efforts for the settlement of the conflict," the website said.
France is making efforts to resolve the Karabakh conflict peacefully, Bartolone, in turn, said.
Aliyev also invited Bartolone to pay a visit to Azerbaijan.
