Russia's current level of support to Syrian army in fight against terrorists good, effective - al-Assad

MOSCOW. March 20 (Interfax) - Russia is currently providing sufficient support to the Syrian Armed Forces in their campaign against terrorists, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad told Russian reporters.

"I'm sure that if the Syrian and the Russian officials and military officials [of Syria and Russia] feel that we need more support to defeat the terrorists, they're going to do it [provide more support], but till this moment, the level of support is good and effective," the president said.

"For this stage [of the anti-terrorist operation], the Russian support by air raids was enough for the Syrian Army to advance on different fronts, mainly in Aleppo and Palmyra as you know," the president said.

Replying to a question about Russia's participation in the liberation of Palmyra, al-Assad mentioned again the support provided by Russia in this operation, but did not disclose the details.

Relations between the Syrian government and the Russian government "go back in history for decades," and this is why Russia is aware of Syria's particularities and the current events happening in it, al-Assad said.
