Conclusion about cause of Roscosmos top manager Yevdokimov's death to be drawn after forensic test results received - Investigative Committee
MOSCOW. March 21 (Interfax) - Investigators looking into the death of Russian state corporation Roscosmos top manager Vladimir Yevdokimov in a Moscow pre-trial detention center have advised against coming to any hasty conclusions as to what could have caused his death, spokesperson for the Russian Investigative Committee's Moscow branch Yulia Ivanova said.
"A conclusion about the circumstances of Yevdokimov's death will be drawn after all of the pieces of evidence collected as part of this case are analyzed, including after we receive the results of a forensic examination that will answer the questions about the cause of his death, the nature of his bodily injuries, as well as how they were inflicted," Ivanov told Interfax on Monday.
It became known on March 18 that Roscosmos Executive Director for Quality Control Yevdokimov arrested on fraud charges had been found dead in his cell at Moscow's Pre-Trial Detention Facility No. 5 with stab wounds to his chest.
A murder inquiry was launched.
Spokesperson for the Moscow Prosecutor's Office Yelena Rossokhina told Interfax that a prosecution inspection had begun over the incident and detention center officials' actions would be given a legal assessment.
The Federal Penitentiary Service's Moscow branch is also carrying out a service inquiry into the incident.
For his part, a source with knowledge of the matter told Interfax on Monday that, according to forensic medics, Yevdokimov's death had been caused by a slash wound to his neck, and a theory suggesting the man's suicide would be rejected.
