Moscow court affirms legality of Browder's, his partner Cherkasov's arrest in absentia

MOSCOW. March 22 (Interfax) - The Moscow City Court declared legal the second arrest in absentia of founder of the Hermitage Capital investment fund William Browder and the detention in absentia of his business partner Ivan Cherkasov as well, they are charged in the case of deliberate bankruptcy and tax evasion, an Interfax correspondent reported.

"Ruling of Moscow's Tverskoi District Court should remain unchanged, the lawyer's appeal to dismiss," the judge said in a ruling.

The court also affirmed the legality of Cherkasov's arrest in absentia.

On February 17, the Tverskoi District Court upheld the investigators' motion and sanctioned Browder's and Cherkasov's arrests in absentia.
