Roskomnadzor blocks over 23,000 ISIL pages in Russia - newspaper
MOSCOW. March 25 (Interfax) - Roskomnadzor has blocked over 23,000 Russian-language websites promoting the terrorist organization ISIL, which is banned in Russia, the newspaper Izvestia reported on Friday.
"In the course of the work with extremist content, Roskomnadzor blocked over 23,000 pages promoting ISIL, which is banned in Russia. The most extremist content - almost one-third of all such content - was found on the social networking site Vkontakte and on the video hosting
YouTube. Both sites delete such materials and limit access to them from the territory of Russia," the agency said in a report cited by the paper.
According to the report, ISIL (banned in Russia) has created Russian-language editions that publish films and electronic magazines disseminated via the Internet. ISIL promotes videos on the Internet the most actively.
"There is information on some five popular films of the terrorist group. For example, one of the reports proves that gold has an advantage over modern paper-based money. The authors criticized the modern financial system as imposed on the whole world by America," Izvestia reported on Friday.
The film, according to the paper, abounds in historical references, demonstrations of military victories and killings committed by terrorists. Printed products are also disseminated via the Internet electronically in
PDF format, according to the paper's sources, Russian law enforcement officials know of seven extremist magazines that come out periodically in Russian.
Under the Law On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office locates extremist materials on the Internet and orders Roskomnadzor top block them, and content can also be found illegal by court, Izvestia reported.
