Poroshenko, Lukashenko to meet in near future - Ukrainian embassy in Minsk
KYIV. March 30 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will meet with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko in the very near future, the Ukrainian Embassy in Minsk said.
On Thursday, March 30, Ukraine's new ambassador to Belarus Ihor Kizim delivered copies of his credentials to Belarusian First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Yevdochenko, the Embassy said on its official site.
"The conversation focused on the intensification of Belarusian-Ukrainian contacts on all levels. The diplomats emphasized in particular the importance of preparing for a meeting between Ukrainian President Poroshenko and Belarusian President Lukashenko due to take place the very near future," the Embassy said in the statement.
Particular focus was on deepening the bilateral trade and economic cooperation and the increase in bilateral trade, the statement says.
President Poroshenko appointed Kizim as Ambassador to Belarus on February 16, 2017.
In April 2015, Poroshenko recalled the previous ambassador, Mykhailo Yezhel. Valeriy Dzhihun was appointed as Ukraine's temporary charge d'affaires in Belarus.
