Belarus, Russia to discuss passport controls on common border in 2nd decade of Apr
MINSK. March 30 (Interfax) - The issues of passport controls on the common border between Russia and Belarus will be discussed in April, Russian Ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov said.
"The issue of passport controls (on the Belarusian-Russian border) is an intrinsic aspect; we have to introduce passport controls at the checkpoints, where citizens of third countries are passing through them, barring people, who have no visas, but want to enter territory of Russia," Surikov told a press conference in Minsk on Thursday.
"All of these issues will be discussed in April by an ad hoc committee set up by Russia and Belarus," the ambassador said, noting that the committee meeting will be held in the second decade of April.
The committee will discuss passport controls issues, possibilities to introduce visas or recognize visas, he said.
"I believe that they (the committee) will work out all their decisions by the end of this year," Surikov also said.
