Tbilisi condemns agreement making several S.Ossetian units part of Russian Armed Forces
TBILISI. March 31 (Interfax) - The Georgian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Friday after Russia and South Ossetia signed an agreement whereby several South Ossetian military units will become part of the Russian Armed Forces.
The ministry condemned the document as "yet another step by Russia towards annexing Abkhazia and the Tskhinval region," the ministry said in the document.
The agreement "fully ignores the fundamental norms and principles of international law," the ministry said.
By acting "in this way Russia inflicts serious damage on the international Geneva discussions" and "is deliberately hampering efforts to achieve any progress in the process of peaceful settlement of the conflict," the Georgian ministry said, calling on international community to condemn the document.
