Voter turnout at parliamentary elections in Armenia tops 50%

YEREVAN. April 2 (Interfax) - Some 1,317,936 people or 50.93% of electors voted as of 5 p.m. (4 p.m. Moscow time) at the parliamentary elections in Armenia, Armenian Central Election Commission Secretary Armen Smbatian said.

He said that 2,587,706 people enjoy the right to vote in Armenia. The voter turnout threshold is not set at the parliamentary elections.

Meanwhile, the voter turnout amounted to 39.17% (1,005,333 electors from a total of 2,550,323 citizens) as of 5 p.m. (4 p.m. Moscow time) at a referendum on transition of this country to the constitutional form of government in December 2015.

All of the 2,009 polling stations opened at the parliamentary elections in Armenia as of 7 a.m. Moscow time (8 a.m. local time). These are the first elections to the National Assembly after the republic's shift to a parliamentary form of government. Five parties and four party blocs are running in the elections.
