Azerbaijan and Russia are developing trusting relations at all levels - Aliyev to Putin

BAKU. April 4 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has pointed to the intensification of contacts between Baku and Moscow in various spheres.

"It is with great satisfaction that I want to point out to the development of trusting ties and the intensification of political, interparliamentary and interministerial contacts at all levels, the consistent deepening of cooperation in various spheres," he said in a message of greetings to President Vladimir Putin on the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Aliyev praised the current level of development of bilateral relations. "The current anniversary is a good occasion to look back at the road traversed by our countries, to sum up results and to map out plans for the future. In a historically short period of time we have succeeded not only in preserving and multiplying the positive results of the common past but come to a qualitatively new standard of engagement. Today relations between our states are relations of strategic partnership based on mutual respect for each other's interests, equality, centuries' old traditions of friendship and neighborliness between the peoples of the two countries," the message says.

Aliyev also singled out the special role of humanitarian ties for strengthening relations of friendship and neighborliness. "Azerbaijan cherishes the Russian language and Russian culture, preserves with care the common cultural and historical legacy," the message says.

He said that Azerbaijan highly appreciates Russia's efforts to settle the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

"I am sure that our interstate relations, Azerbaijani-Russian multifaceted interaction will continue serving the interests of our peoples, peace, stability and progress in the region," the message says.
