Russian, French foreign ministers discuss situation in Ukraine, in Syria
MOSCOW. April 4 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault discussed in a telephone conversation on Tuesday the ongoing work in the Normandy format aimed to facilitate the implementation of the Minsk Agreements for the Ukrainian settlement.
The two ministers also exchanged views on the situation in Syria in the context of implementation of the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Ayrault telephoned Lavrov to offer Russia condolences over the April 3 blast in the St. Petersburg metro. Ayrault reaffirmed on behalf of France, the country that was many times a target for terror, of the solidarity with families and friends of the victims of the terror attack that he called a barbarous crime.
Lavrov thanked Ayrault for the words of support, expressing hope for the strengthening of the Russian-French cooperation, including in the area of security, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
