Magadan Region sees gold production surge 60% in Q1
MAGADAN. April 11 (Interfax) - Miners in Magadan Region produced 3,542.5 kg of gold in the first quarter of 2017, which was 1,273.6 kg or 56% more than a year earlier, the regional government's information policy department reported.
The gold was mined at hardrock deposits, as alluvial deposits are not mined during the winter.
"The results of the first quarter indicate that the fairly ambitious plans to mine 30.5 tonnes of gold in Magadan Region in 2017 are quite realistic. We have already felt the effect from the increase in ore processing at the mine and processing plant at the Pavlik deposit. It is this enterprise that accounted for most of the growth in gold production in the first three months of the year - more than 800 kg," Governor Vladimir Pecheny said.
Miners in the Kolyma region produced 27.9 tonnes of gold and more than 889 tones of silver in 2016. Silver production totalled 176.55 tonnes in the first quarter of 2017.
