Georgian president stresses importance of using Russian language to resist "Russia's propaganda"
TBILISI. April 11 (Interfax) - The Russian language should not be forgotten in Georgia, it should be actively used, Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili believes.
In addition to being a means of communication with ethnic minorities in Georgia Russian "is very convenient from the viewpoint of spreading information," Margvelashvili said on Tuesday at the NATO-Georgia people's diplomacy forum in Tbilisi.
In his opinion, the Russian language can be actively used to counter "Russian propaganda" and to bring home messages to Abkhazians, Ossetians and other ethnic minorities.
"If we leave Abkhazians, Ossetians and other ethnic minorities face to face with the not-too-bad Russian propaganda machine that is operating well and effectively then I don't know how we plan to integrate these people. So, in my opinion, the Russian language should really not be forgotten in Georgia. On the contrary, it should be used actively," the president said.
