Russian arms export not affected by difficult intl situation, Russia remains stably in 2nd place - FSMTC chief

MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia confidently ranks second among the biggest arms suppliers, according to Dmitry Shugayev, Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC).

"Despite the difficult international situation, Russia confidently holds second place in the top five of biggest arms suppliers," Shugayev said at the Russian Foreign Ministry's Diplomatic Academy on Tuesday.

"In 2016 [Russia] signed 18 international agreements in the sphere of military-technical cooperation, Russian military products were exported to 52 countries, and the number of our partners in the field of military-technical cooperation exceeds a hundred states," Shugayev said.

"During his speech the director of the FSMTC of Russia covered modern trends on the global arms market and analyzed the problems, questions and prospects of developing Russia's military-technical cooperation with foreign states in various world regions," an FSMTC spokesperson told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.

In March Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia exports its military products to 52 countries, the export-order book remains at $50 billion. In 2016, Russia's military exports exceeded $15 billion, Putin said.
