Azerbaijan and EU to discuss political aspects of strategic partnership agreement - source

BAKU. April 12 (Interfax) - Another round of talks between Azerbaijan and the European Union on a draft agreement of strategic partnership will take place in Baku on April 25, a diplomatic source told Interfax.

"The next talks will be held on April 25 in Baku. Documents compiled by Azerbaijan and EU proposals concerning them will be discussed," the source said.

"Political issues will be debated at the first stage," he said.

The EU delegation will be led by Luc Devigne of the European External Action Service, he said.

On November 14, 2016 the EU Council approved a motion of the European Commission and the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy on issuing a mandate for talks on a new agreement with Azerbaijan which should replace the 1996 partnership and cooperation agreement.

Talks on the new agreement began on February 7, 2017.
