Some 35 detainees at unauthorized protests penalized without appropriate reasons, situation mended - Moskalkova
MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Administrative penalties were handed down on 35 detainees during an unauthorized protest in Moscow on March 26 that are disproportionate regarding their offenses, this situation has been repaired, Russian human rights ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova said.
"I have filed requests with the prosecution service, mayor's office and other bodies. But there has been not a single case of inflicting bodily damage; however, the prosecution service has established that an administrative penalty, which does not comply with the legislation, without appropriate reasons for this, was applied in 35 instances, and these situations were mended," Moskalkova told reporters after an ombudsman-led Expert Council meeting.
Moskalkova said that she had received no requests from citizens, who were detained at the rally, but human rights organizations turned to her, in particular, the 'For Human Rights' organization.
The absence of bodily damage among participants to the protest indicates that the ethics of professional actions by the law enforcement agencies is rising, Moskalkova said.
