Russian military advisor killed in militant attack in Syria - Russian Defense Ministry
MOSCOW. April 20 (Interfax) - A Russian military advisor, Maj. Sergei Bordov, has been killed in Syria as a result of a militant attack on a government military garrison, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Thursday.
"The serviceman was part of a group of Russian military advisors, executing tasks of training one of Syrian army units," the ministry said.
"During the attack by militants, the Russian officer organized a response by Syrian troops by preventing terrorists from breaking into the residential camp. During the fight, the officer sustained fatal wounds," the ministry said.
The command has nominated Maj. Bordov for a state award, the ministry said.
Reports by some of western media outlets about two Russian servicemen killed in Syria are untrue, the ministry said.
