Russia should join talks to peacefully resolve N. Korea problem - Philippine defense secretary
MOSCOW. April 27 (Interfax) - The Philippines fears that tensions may flare up on the Korean Peninsula and urges Russia to join the search for a peaceful solution, Philippine Secretary of National Defense Delfin Lorenzana said.
"Whether we like it or not, North Korea is a military power possessing nuclear weapons. This is a truly great concern of everyone precisely when one can hardly expect any predictability," Lorenzana said at the 6th Moscow Conference on International Security on Thursday.
"It has repeatedly tested ballistic missiles, which triggered tensions on the Korean Peninsula," the secretary said.
"The deployment of U.S. missile defense systems adds to those tensions," he added.
"It is necessary to engage Russia so that the peninsula situation could be resolved in a peaceful fashion," Lorenzana said.
