Russian Justice Ministry appeals against ECHR's ruling on 63,000 euros payment to Navalny for unjustified detentions

MOSCOW. April 28 (Interfax) - The Russian Justice Ministry has appealed in the Grand Chamber of the European Court for Human Rights (ECHR) against the ruling on the payment of 63,000 euros to opposition activist Alexei Navalny for the unjustified detentions conducted by the Russian police, the Russian Justice Ministry's press service told Interfax on Friday.

"An appeal of the Russian authorities for the transfer of the 'Navalny v. Russia' case to the Grand Chamber was filed with the ECHR in accordance with the article 43 of the European Convention on Human Rights on April 26," the press service said.

"The Russian authorities' reasoning is set up taking into account views of the competent government bodies," the press service said.

The Justice Ministry recalled that the media discussion of a substantive part of pleadings filed with the ECHR on behalf of the Russian authorities is not practiced.
