Navy to participate in several strategic, operational-tactical drills in 2017 - Russian Defense Ministry
MOSCOW. May 4 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Navy has substantially increased the intensity of combat training over the 2017 winter training period, which saw more than 120 tactical exercises held in the Barents, White, North, Black, Japan, Bering, Black Mediterranean and other seas, head of the Navy's combat training directorate Rear Admiral Viktor Kochemazov said.
"The level of training achieved among Navy forces and military-command bodies as a result of combat training over the winter training period this year will make it possible to ensure quality conduct of the forthcoming 2017 combat-training events, including exercises of the operational-tactical and strategic levels," Kochemazov was quoted by the Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson as saying.
"It became possible to substantially increase the number of trained tactical groups of ships," the military chief said.
"Our ships conducted over 500 main combat-training exercises using precision missile systems, artillery weapons, anti-aircraft missile and artillery complexes, as well as torpedo weapons," the rear admiral said.
The 2017 winter training period saw an over one-and-a-half time increase of last year's indicator, he said.
"Despite the winter period being characterized by worsening hydrometeorological conditions due to the start of cold weather, this was no reason to reduce intensity of combat training at sea. As a result, the total time naval forces spent sailing in the winter training period exceeded 4,000 days. It is a good result," Kochemazov said.
