More than 430 hectares of forest ablaze in Transbaikal territory
CHITA. May 10 (Interfax) - Ten forest fires are raging across 432 hectares in the Transbaikal territory, the territorial natural resources ministry said in a report on Wednesday.
As of 8 a.m. local time Wednesday, four fires were burning across 148 hectares near the populated localities of Dogoi, Amazar, Chichatka and Tanga in the Mogotui, Mogocha and Ulyotovsky districts, the report said.
Fire services also contained six more wildfires covering 248 hectares near the populated localities of Olentui, Orsuk, Maleta, Vershino-Darasunsky, Sokhondo and Makkaveyevo in the Karymskoye, Petrovsk-Zabaikalsky, Tungokochensky and Chita districts.
The fires, which are believed to have been caused by human factors, pose no threat to residential areas.
Some 227 people are using 35 pieces of equipment to fight the wildfires.
Fifteen fires were extinguished across 215.5 hectares in the Gazimuro-Zavodsky, Petrovsk-Zabaikalsky, Chita, Ulyotovsky, Krasnochikoisky, Sretensk and Khilok districts during the past holidays.
An emergency situation is currently in place in the Transbaikal territory because of the wildfire hazard.
