Lavrov, Tillerson agree in Washington to continue addressing problems in Russia-U.S. relations through envoys
WASHINGTON. May 10 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his U.S. counterpart Rex Tillerson have agreed to continue contacts through special envoys.
"Rex Tillerson and I have discussed the outcome of the meeting that our special envoys had in New York only yesterday to make a review of the bilateral relations," Lavrov told a news conference following the talks with his U.S. counterpart Rex Tillerson and U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington.
"We have agreed that through this channel, we will continue considering those irritants that have unnaturally emerged in our relations," Lavrov said.
This is "a useful, business-like approach," Lavrov believes. "We won't solve problems at one go. This is absolutely clear. But the fact that there is the desire to move in this exactly direction is positive. And President Trump confirmed his interest in building a mutually beneficial, business-like and pragmatic relationship, and in solving problems. That is very important," Lavrov said.
