Two Ukrainian soldiers killed, 6 injured in Donbas in past 24 hours - staff

KYIV. May 12 (Interfax) - Ukrainian army positions in the Donbas conflict zone came under 53 attacks in the past 24 hours; two Ukrainian servicemen were killed and six suffered injuries, the army operation staff said on Facebook on Friday.

"Over half [of the attacks] were conducted yesterday in the period from 6 p.m. till midnight," the staff said.

Most attacks were observed in the Mariupol sector. For instance, positions in Shyrokyne, Vodyane, Hnutove, Chermalyk and Pavlopil came under attack of infantry combat vehicle weapons, grenade launchers and small arms, while 82mm mortars, infantry combat vehicle weapons, grenade launchers and small arms were used in Mariinka, the staff said.

In turn, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic saw more than 50 attacks by the Ukrainian army over the past day.

"The Ukrainian army breached the truce 51 times in the past 24 hours. In all, the Ukrainian army attacked 21 populated localities in the republic, using artillery, tanks, mortars, infantry combat vehicles, armored personnel carriers, grenade launchers, and small arms," a spokesman for the DPR Defense Ministry told reporters on Friday.

One house was damaged in Horlivka, and another one in Zaitseve, while Mineralne reported damage done to two homes as result of the attacks, the spokesman said.
