All-Russia Azerbaijani Congress to appeal against its abolition in court - Baku
BAKU. May 16 (Interfax) - The Russian Supreme Court's cancellation of the registration of the All-Russia Azerbaijani Congress could undermine the Azerbaijani community's faith in Moscow's impartiality as a mediator of the Karabakh settlement, the Azerbaijani State Committee on Work with Diaspora said in a statement.
"The cancellation of the Congress's registration has been met with deep regret and concern by Azerbaijan and Azerbaijanis living in Russia and all over the world," the statement said.
"This decision runs contrary to ties of strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Russia and the essence of centuries-old friendly relations of our peoples," the committee said.
The Supreme Court's ruling could interfere with rapidly-developing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia, the committee said.
"Considering the concern of the Azerbaijani public and diaspora representatives, the State Committee once again emphasized that the analysis of the situation surrounding the Congress and information obtained from a variety of sources caused suspicions that certain forces that see the Azerbaijani-Russian strategic partnership as a threat to their interests are behind the organization's abolition," the statement said.
"In accordance with Russia's legislation, the Congress will appeal to relevant courts and try to bring justice. All necessary steps will be taken to ensure that the court's decision regarding the Congress' abolition is reconsidered in accordance with the law and objective and fair result meeting the interests of our countries and peoples is achieved," the committee said.
On May 15, the Russian Supreme Court abolished the All-Russia Azerbaijani Congress following a lawsuit filed by the Russian Justice Ministry.
