Russian Foreign Ministry on U.S. arms supplies to Syrian Kurds: All weapons must be supplied to legitimate authorities

MOSCOW. May 18 (Interfax) - In commenting on the United States' intention to supply Syrian Kurds with weapons, the Russian Foreign Ministry said any weapons must be supplied only to the country's legitimate government.

"All arms supplies must be shipped to the country's legitimate government," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a news briefing in Moscow on Thursday, when asked how the ministry viewed the U.S. intention to ship weapons to Kurdish groups fighting ISIL (a terror group banned in Russia) in Syria.

This is exactly how Russia operates when exporting its weapons, in particular, to the Middle East, Zakharova said.

"One should work on the premise of this inviolable rule," Zakharova said.
