Lawyers for victims in Permyakov case in Armenia go to Constitutional Court

YEREVAN. May 19 (Interfax) - The lawyers for the aggrieved party in the case involving Russian serviceman Valery Permyakov, who was found guilty of killing seven members of the Avetisyan family in Gyumri, have gone to the Armenian Constitutional Court.

"The claim was filed on May 17. It is related to the legal provision with regard to the civil lawsuit filed by the lawyers in the case involving the killing of the Avetisyan family," lawyer Aramazd Kiviryan told the Armenian news site News.am.

The legal successors sought a remedy to compensate for damages in an amount of 450,000 euros in a civil suit, he said.

"The first instance court declined to accept the lawsuit. The appeals and cassation courts left the claim undecided. Therefore, we went to the Constitutional Court regarding the legislation provision creating such a situation," Kiviryan said.

The legal successors of the aggrieved party earlier filed a claim with the Armenian Constitutional Court, saying the crime had not been resolved in full and Permyakov could not have acted alone. The legal successors later filed a different claim seeking 450,000 euros in damages.

On August 12, 2015, the Russian military garrison court in Gyumri found Permyakov guilty of desertion, theft and illegal carrying of arms and sentenced him to ten years in a maximum security penitentiary. The criminal case had been separated from the Gyumri homicide proceedings.

On August 23, 2016, a court in Armenia sentenced Permyakov to life in prison for murdering seven members of the Avetisyan family, including two little children, in Gyumri on January 12, 2015.

Permyakov was handed over to Russia on Thursday.
