Syria's HNC agrees to address de Mistura proposal on mechanism for discussing Constitution

MOSCOW. May 19 (Interfax) - The Syrian opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC) has reconsidered its attitude to the proposals made by UN Special Envoy on Syria Staffan de Mistura on the discussion of constitutional issues.

"We are not declining this proposal," HNC advisor Yahya Al-Aridi told Interfax.

Some media reported earlier citing Fateh Hassoun, a member of the HNC delegation to the Geneva talks, that HNC did not accept de Mistura's idea of the mechanism for discussing the Syrian constitution.

De Mistura earlier suggested that the Geneva negotiation participants create a technical consultative mechanism to discuss the constitution and legal issues, which was to begin operating immediately after being approved by the parties.
