Kyrgyz, Tajik prosecutors to create working group to exchange info on terrorists
BISHKEK. May 19 (Interfax) - A decision was made during the meeting of the unified board of the Tajik and Kyrgyz Prosecutor General's Offices on the consolidation of efforts in the fight against transnational organized crime, terrorism and extremism.
The unified board meeting "was conducted for the purpose of consolidating the efforts of the bodies of the two countries aimed at fighting transnational organized crime, terrorism, forcible extremism, smuggling of goods, narcotics, and also prevention of and investigation into border conflicts, the press service for the Kyrgyz Prosecutor General's Office told Interfax on Friday.
"It was decided to order the relevant units of the Tajik and Kyrgyz Prosecutor General's Offices under the agreement on cooperation between the main supervisory bodies of the CIS countries in the fight against terrorism and other manifestations of extremism to create a permanent working contact group for regular exchange of operative, reference and other information on the work of criminal groups and specific persons involved in the commission of extremist and terrorist crimes," the source said.
"The board meeting participants signed a joint protocol, in accordance with which the sides have reached an agreement to ensure relevant prosecutors' supervision of the observance of the national legislation and intergovernmental regulations aimed at the soonest delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border," the source said.
Additionally, the sides reached an agreement to strengthen bilateral cooperation, coordinate operative and investigative measures, and also establish direct working contacts between the prosecutors of the border areas and regions of the two countries under the signed interdepartmental agreement on legal assistance and cooperation.
The unified board of the Tajik and Kyrgyz Prosecutor General's Offices met on Friday in the Tajik city of Guliston. It was chaired by Kyrgyz Prosecutor General Indira Dzholdubayeva and her Tajik counterpart Yusuf Rahmon. Among the meeting participants were deputy prosecutors general, military prosecutors, prosecutors of the border areas and regions of the two countries, and also heads of the relevant structural divisions of the Prosecutor General's Offices.
