Russia begins working on prospective aviation complex of long-range aviation - Rogozin
MOSCOW. May 20 (Interfax) - Russian manufacturing industry begins working on constructing the prospective aviation complex of long-range aviation, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said.
"It doesn't mean we have abandoned building of the prospective aviation complex of long-range aviation. The work on it is starting," Rogozin told the News on Saturday with Sergei Brilyov program on Rossiya-1 (VGTRK) TV channel.
The work on building the updated Tupolev Tu-160M2 strategic bomber is underway, Rogozin said. "We will certainly re-build this engine on a new technical basis, with new electronics and new weapons," he said.
The work on constructing the prospective aviation complex of military transport aviation is starting, Rogozin said.
"A decision on the medium aircraft of military transport aviation has been made in Sochi recently. We will build it. We will construct it at the turn of 2023-2024. We are planning to take to the air a light cargo aircraft later in the year. It's important for our army, which is certainly compact, to have an opportunity to be immediately deployed to any battleground where some threat emerges," he said.
