Russia has response to U.S. plans to take weapons to space - Shoigu

MOSCOW. May 24 (Interfax) - Russia has a response to the United States' plans to deploy weapons to outer space, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

"I can assure you that we are awake," Shoigu said at the Federation Council on Wednesday, in reply to a relevant question.

Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, for her part, said the Russian Armed Forces can protect the country from any threats and repel aggression.

"Real radical changes have taken place in the army in the past few years, which the defense minister convincingly showed in his report. Today, every citizen of our country can be sure that our army, our Armed Forces are capable of preventing and averting any aggression against Russia, responding to any aggression," Matviyenko said at the Federation Council meeting.

It is extremely important that citizens should live and work in peace "and understand that they have an army that will defend them," she said.
