Rosatom to start dredging waters at site of future Hanhikivi-1 NPP in summer
MOSCOW. May 25 (Interfax) - Rosatom, Russia's state nuclear corporation, will begin dredging work in the waters at the site of the future Hanhikivi-1 Nuclear Power Plant in the summer.
The general contractor for the Hanhikivi-1 NPP project, JSC Concern Titan-2 signed a contract with Finland's Destia Oy in May 2017 to carry out ground stabilization work at the site of the plant, Rusatom International Network said in a statement. Work will begin in the summer and be completed in the fall of 2017.
A contract was also signed with Finland's Skanska Infra Oy to excavate a tunnel for cooling water. The contract calls for laying a 500-meter tunnel for cooling water and two 200-meter access tunnels. This work will also begin in the summer.
"While the license for construction of the main part of the NPP has not been received, work is underway at the site of the future plant on the creation of infrastructure and construction of auxiliary buildings. Dredging work in the waters will begin in the summer. At this stage, the development of documents for the construction license, which is expected to be received at the end of 2018, is continuing," the statement said.
