Rosatom, Philippines sign agreement on peaceful use of nuclear energy

MOSCOW. May 26 (Interfax) - Rosatom and the Science and Technology Ministry of the Philippines have signed a memorandum on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, the Russian state nuclear corporation said.

The parties will cooperate in the use of radiation technology, construction and operation of research reactors, and the construction and operation of nuclear power plants.

The document also calls for partnership in the development of nuclear infrastructure in the Philippines, including training of personnel and promoting public acceptance of nuclear energy and radiation technology in the country.

"The signed document opens up broad opportunities for our countries, not only for scientific and technical cooperation in the area of peaceful nuclear technology, but also for development of the practical applications of nuclear technology in healthcare, agriculture and many other important sectors of Philippine industry. We are prepared to share the unique experience of Russia's nuclear industry with our partners, and cooperate in such fundamental areas as training workers and ensuring public acceptance of nuclear technology," Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev was quoted as saying.
