Former Moldovan President Lucinschi's younger son detained for his suspected role in money laundering

CHISINAU. May 26 (Interfax) - Cyril Lucinschi, a former Moldovan parliament deputy and the younger son of Moldova's ex-President Petru Lucinschi, has been detained for his suspected involvement in money laundering, the press service of the Moldovan National Anticorruption Center told Interfax.

Three employees of privately owned companies involved in this case were detained together with him. Searches are now being carried out at their offices, houses and cars.

In 2009, Cyril Lucinschi was elected to Moldova's parliament from the Liberal Democratic Party, whose chairman, former Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat, was sentenced to nine years in prison last year.

Lucinschi gave up his parliamentary seat at his own initiative in February 2017.
