Five Russian Navy warships drill encounter battle in Mediterranean
MOSCOW. May 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet have practiced an encounter battle and collective air defense in the Mediterranean, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday.
"The Five warships divided into two groups trained in encounter battle and radiation, chemical and biological defense," the Black Sea Fleet staff said in a report seen by Interfax-AVN.
The drills followed "the practice of collective defense from an enemy's air attack means and anti-submarine and anti-sabotage measures during the first stages of the convoy mission," the staff said.
"Scheduled tactical drills of the Black Sea Fleet's squadron of surface ships and forces of the Navy's task force permanently deployed in the remote oceanic zone continue" in the Mediterranean, the ministry said.
The exercises supervised by Black Sea Fleet deputy commander Vice-Adm. Valery Kulikov will end on May 27, the staff said.
